Hiya Babes!

First and foremost, I am so glad you are here.
My name is Althea Pina, and thank you for coming to One Recipe At A Time. It truly means the world to me that anyone is even slightly interested, so again, a humble thank you.

I have always been a foodie girl and it started very early on in my life as I watched my family cook amazing and delicious foods. I was always at my nonna’s side, hovering over my dad, or in awe of my aunts and uncles as they whipped up food that made my heart pitter patter. This blog is essentially dedicated to them for striking an everlasting passion for food in me.

Here, you will find all the recipes that I have come across, either by family and friends, or by testing and altering some that I find. I will always do my best to give the credit where its due as well. I have always been into food blogging and have had a few that have crashed and burn because of my lack of consistency, but in 2021, I finally decided to hold myself accountably and give this a real go.

What to Expect

I post food that vary in culture and styles, often derived from my Sicilian and Filipino heritage, along with a lot of Dominican inspired food since I had to learn to feed my Dominican boyfriend (cringe). There will also be a handful of Asian and Spanish inspired meals because I am all about flavors. I also love sharing recipes, so many of these may come from my friends and family, and if you ever want to share a recipe, please do!

I may occasionally share some of my other passions like travel, teaching, and some lifestyle content because I would love to find like minded folks and if there is ever a way I can help in someway, well why not! I hope that is okay with you all, because *she’s a people pleaser* HA!

A Bit of Background

I am a Brooklyn NYC Native and I fully claim being a New Yorker as a defining characteristic. Even though, as of 2021 I am no longer a resident of my beloved city, I still work here every single day so I refuse to say that I am a Jersey Girl now, lol! But I grew up in Sunset Park, where I lived with my parents, my grandparents, my uncle, and my cousins, in one big three family apartment building. I have some of my fondest memories there and will forever call 4808 home, even if its now a commercial building. My mother is from Batangas, Philippines and my father is from Castrofilippo, Sicily. I am somewhat fluent in Sicilian, Tagalog, and a smidge of Spanish having gotten my Bachelors from Brooklyn College in Spanish Adolescent Education.

That’s right, your girl is an educator. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in 2012 in Adolescent Education with a Minor in Spanish Language. Then received my Masters in General/Special Education and an Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I love learning, and love teaching, but cooking is my true passion. It is the only way I know how to calm the noise in my head and I thrive in the chaos of the kitchen.

And so, with all of that, if I still managed to keep you interested this far… I so look forward to sharing everything I can with you as we navigate the kitchen and foods One Recipe at a Time.
