Not Everyone Knows How to Make White Rice!
Rice has been a staple in my life for as long as I can remember, but if I am being honest, I really sucked at making it. Because of my Asian roots and Dominican boyfriend, it is almost determined that we eat rice at least twice a week. So, I made it my duty to figure out how to make rice both the Asian way and the Spanish way. That was how I found out that rice came in a variety of forms. For Spanish rice, it is recommended to use a caldero pot and Carolina Long Grain Rice or Extra Long Grain. For Asian rice, Jasmine rice is best in the rice cooker. Measurements are listed in the recipes below 🙂
Spanish Style White Rice
Ingredients
- 1 cup extra long rice The ratio of rice to water is 1:1 plus an extra 1/2 of a cup of water. It is not 1:1.5. Your rice will come out soggy if you put too much.
- 1 ½ cup water
- sprinkle of salt
- swig of veggie oil
Instructions
- In a caldero, add water, oil, and salt. Bring to a boil on medium heat. While waiting for water to boil, wash your rice.
- When water is boiling. Add rice in and stir. Let the rice soak up most of the water till little volcanos start to emerge from rice and most of the water has evaporated.
- Lower heat to the lowest setting and cover. Let cook for 25 minutes.
- Remove from heat and fluff with a fork. Keep covered till ready to serve.
